  Zion Ohana

Dec 17, 2001 - Zion Ohana, 45, of Adam was brutally murdered by three residents of Jaba in Samaria.

Shadi Kaid, a resident of Jaba, located not far from Adam, enticed Zion Ohana to the village, where he and two accomplices brutally murdered him, burying his body in a deep ditch they had prepared. His body was found only after a week of intensive search.

Zion was born in Moshav Beit Nehemia, one of eight siblings. When he was a child, the family moved to Jerusalem where he completed his schooling. Already as a child he loved painting and sculpture, and was awarded a scholarship to study art at the Bezalel Academy by the Baka neighborhood community center.

After his army service, Zion retured to Jerusalem, serving as an art teacher at the community center and as a special education teacher. In 1985 he began to work for the Income Tax office in Jerusalem, filling a variety of positions. In 1999 he was awarded a prize for excellence from the director-general of the Finance Ministry.

Following his divorce in 2001, Zion Ohana moved to Adam, a small community north of Jerusalem, and devoted himself to art. He hoped to exhibit his work, some 60 paintings, at the Jerusalem municipal gallery. His dream was realized posthumously, in December 2002.

Zion Ohana was buried in Jerusalem. He is survived by his mother Esther, four brothers, three sisters, and three children: Nitzan, Maayan and Shiran.
