Sgt.-Maj. (Res.) Ofir Roth


Apr 1, 2002 - Sgt.-Maj. (Res.) Ofir Roth, 22, of Gan Yoshiya, an IDF reserve soldier, was killed at a roadblock near Jerusalem's Har Homa neighborhood by a Palestinian sniper firing from Beit Sahur, near Bethlehem.
Ofir was discharged from regular army service a year ago and was called up for his first reserve duty four days before he was killed.
Ofir loved photography and travel. He spent the last year working in his father's carpentry shop during the mornings and as a waiter in a pub in the evenings to save money for a trip to the USA and Australia. Friends described him as "funny, charismatic, fair and very creative at work. A man with character and very sensitive."
Sgt.-Maj. (Res.) Ofir Roth was buried in Netanya. He is survived by his parents and two sisters.
