Apr 6, 2002 - St.-Sgt. (res.) Nisan Avraham, 26, of Lod was killed and five other soldiers were lightly injured when two Palestinian gunmen opened fire and threw grenades at the entrance to Rafiah Yam in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinians, members of the Islamic Jihad, were killed.

Nissan, 26, completed his compulsory service in Golani Brigade five years ago. After the army, he traveled in South America. During the past two years, he studied accounting in the College of Management in Rishon Lezion. He lived in Tel-Aviv with his girlfriend Aya.

Nisan loved sports, especially playing and watching soccer. He excelled in mathematics and helped high school students, free of charge for those who could not pay. "I have an exam on next Thursday, said one of his students. "Nisan said, with a smile, 'don't worry, I'm supposed to finish my reserve duty by Tuesday. I'll come to your house to teach you and, you'll see, you'll do well on the exam.'"

St.-Sgt. (res.) Nisan Avraham was buried in the military section of the cemetery in Lod. He is survived by his parents, Hannah and Ami, and his sister Ortal, 18.
