Haim Amar

Nov 28, 2002 - Haim Amar, 56, of Beit She'an was one of six people killed when two terrorists opened fire and threw grenades at the Likud polling station in Beit She'an, where party members were casting their votes in the Likud primary.
At around 3:20 P.M. two terrorists arrived in a stolen vehicle, opened fire and threw grenades at people crowding around the Likud branch, which is located near the central bus station. Both terrorists were killed by a Border Police officer who lives in the area. The Fatah al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack, in which six were killed and over 40 wounded. The terrorists were killed by an off-duty Border Policeman.
Haim Amar, who had been active in the local Likud branch for 18 years, had come to the polling station at 1:00 P.M. to cast his vote but returned later to help out, and was killed by the terrorists.
Haim had worked for 22 years in the Israel Prison Service, serving among others as commander of the jail in Jenin. After retiring from service nine years ago, he worked for the Amidar public housing company and later in a pharmaceutical plant in the Afula area. He had not worked for the past three years because of ill health.
Haim Amar was buried in Beit She'an. He is survived by his wife, Susan, four children - Tamar (37), Shlomo (29), Inbal (24) and Moshe (20) - and three grandchildren. He also leaves behind four brothers and sisters.
