June 11, 2003 - Anna Orgal, 55, of Jerusalem was one of 17 people killed in a suicide bombing on bus No. 14A on Jaffa Road in the center of Jerusalem.

At around 17:30, the bomber, dressed as an ultra-Orthodox Jew, boarded Egged bus No. 14A at the Mahane Yehuda market, and a short while later, as the bus drove down Jaffa Road near the Davidka Square, detonated his bomb, wrecking the bus and killing 16 of its passengers. Over 100 people were wounded, including dozens of passersby. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.

Anna Orgal devoted her entire life to art and culture. She lived for many years in London, where she worked in the BBC translation department. About nine years ago she began work at Mishkenot Sha'ananim in Jerusalem, where she was responsible for special cultural projects, and for the past year and a half also worked in the Bible Museum.

Gabi Hadar, deputy director general of Mishkenot Sha'ananim, said, "She was a woman with amazing knowledge. She was endowed with an exceptional talent for writing and had translated many books." He described Anna as "a beautiful woman with penetrating blue eyes. Her decision to remain single out of choice was also special."

Anna Orgal was buried in Tel Aviv. She is survived by her parents and sister.
