  Ilanit Peled

Jan 5, 2003 - Ilanit Peled, 32, of Azor, was one of 23 people killed when two suicide bombers blew themselves up on a pedestrian mall in Tel Aviv's Naveh Sha'anan neighborhood near the old central bus station.

Fatah's Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack, which apparently was assisted by Islamic Jihad.

Ilanit Peled, an attorney, had phoned her parents to tell them she was on her way home from work, when she stopped at the old station to switch buses and was killed. She had completed with distinction an MA in law at Tel Aviv University just one week before.

Ilanit's younger brother had been injured in a traffic accident when he was three years old and she devoted her spare time to helping her parents care for him.

The family declined to publish a photograph of Ilanit. "We want to keep the mourning to ourselves," explained her father, Haim. "Everyone who knew her knows what kind of a person she was. It's hard for me to grasp the fact that suddenly she's gone, that I've suddenly lost my daughter."

Ilanit Peled was buried in the Holon Cemetery. She is survived by her parents and brother.
