Avi Suissa
Mar 14, 2004 - Avi Suissa, 56, of Kiryat Malakhi was one of ten people killed in a double suicide bombing at Ashdod Port. Hamas and Fatah claimed responsibility for the attack.
Shortly before 5:00 p.m. the first terrorist got inside the port and blow himself up close to a group of workers standing next to a machine repair workshop. The explosion blew the roof off the workshop, and five workers were killed immediately. A few moments later, the second suicide terrorist detonated his bomb on the sidewalk in a storage and refrigeration area adjacent to the port. The blast destroyed a trailer, killing three office workers. Two others died in hospital; 16 were wounded.
Avi Suissa worked in the warehouse at Ashdod port. He served in the past as a member of the Kiryat Malakhi local council. Last Friday he met the mayor at the local shopping center and said to him, "I'm ready to volunteer for any public casue - just call me."
Avi Suissa was buried in Kiryat Malakhi. He is survived by his wife, Ruti, their six children - Yaron, 28, Oshrat, 26, Sarit, 24, Anat, 18, Hai, 15, and Shir, 9, as well as three grandchildren.
