Daniel (Danny) Assulin
Mar 14, 2004 - Daniel Assulin, 51, of Ashdod was one of ten people killed in a double suicide bombing at Ashdod Port. Hamas and Fatah claimed responsibility for the attack.
Shortly before 5:00 p.m. the first terrorist got inside the port and blow himself up close to a group of workers standing next to a machine repair workshop. The explosion blew the roof off the workshop, and five workers were killed immediately. A few moments later, the second suicide terrorist detonated his bomb on the sidewalk in a storage and refrigeration area adjacent to the port. The blast destroyed a trailer, killing three office workers. Two others died in hospital; 16 were wounded.
Danny Assulin, a well-known figure at Ashdod Port, had worked in the mechanical equipment department for 30 years, like his father before him. He loved his work at the port and had spent most of his life there. Two weeks ago he returned from a continuing education program in Germany to learn about new equipment and he was slated to fly to Finland in two weeks' time for another work-related course.
Assulin's brother-in-law Claude said, "He was a special person and the smile never left his face. He was always ready to help, generous and good-natured."
Daniel Assulin was buried in Ashdod. He is survived by his wife, Negba, daughter Adva, 22, son, Nissim, 18, and grandson, Ido, 6 months.
