13 Jul 2005
July 13, 2005 - Anya Lifshitz, 50, of Netanya was one of five people killed in the July 12th suicide bombing outside the entrance to Hasharon Mall in Netanya.

Shortly after 6:30 P.M., the bomber detonated himself at the pedestrian crossing on the south side of the intersection of Herzl and Petah Tikva Streets. The Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack.

Anya Lifshitz had gone shopping at the Netanya mall with her daughter, Margarita Sobersky, and 3-year-old granddaughter Liel. Her husband Yevgeny, who remained at home, heard the blast and rushed to the mall, where he knew they had gone. Anya, who was mortally wounded, died the following day in Laniado Hospital in Netanya. Margarita and Liel were seriously wounded.

The Lifshitz family immigrated to Israel from Russia 14 years ago and settled in Netanya.

Anya Lifshitz was buried in Netanya. She is survived by her husband, Yevgeny, daughter and granddaughter.
