Beber Vaknin

Dec 27, 2008 - Beber Vaknin, 58, of Netivot was killed when a Kassam rocket fired from Gaza struck an apartment building in Netivot.

Beber Vaknin was at home when the siren sounded. As he stood at the entrance to his apartment building, a rocket struck the third floor of the building across the street. He was hit by shrapnel  which pierced his heart.

The Vaknin family settled in Sderot in 1960, and Beber and his brother Armand moved to Netivot after their parents died at an early age. Beber, who was unmarried, was a skilled metal worker, who worked on many construction projects in the city. "He even helped build the water town at the entrance to Netivot," his brother Armand said. Neighbors described him as good-natured, quiet and solitary.

Beber Vaknin was buried in Netivot. He is survived by two brothers and a sister.
