Irit Sheetrit

Dec 29, 2008 - Irit Sheetrit, 39, of Ashdod was killed and several wounded when a Grad rocket exploded in the center of Ashdod. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.

Irit Sheetrit was on her way home from the gym with her sister Ayelet when a rocket exploded near their car shortly after 9 pm in Ashdod. Irit heard the alert and called her children at home to make sure they were in the safe room. Although she managed to get out of the car to take cover at a bus stop, the rocket struck just meters from her and she was fatally wounded. Her sister was wounded.

Irit worked as a secretary at a school in Ashdod.

Irit Sheetrit was buried in Ashdod. She is survived by her husband Herzl and their four children - daughters Chen, 19, Gal, 17, and Elia, 12, and son Tal, 10 - as well as her parents, Eli and Lilian, and grandmother.
