May 9, 2009 - Gregory Rabinowitz, 56, of Ashdod was kidnapped and strangled to death by three West Bank Palestinians.
Gregory Rabinowitz was a taxi driver. Three Palestinians got into his cab in Ashdod and asked to be driven to nearby Gan Yavne. There they directed him to a dirt path where they attacked him, tied him up and placed him in the trunk. When he struggle to free himself, they choked him to death. His body was found two days later, on May 11.
Three residents of Aranah, a Palestinian village near Jenin, were later arrested and confessed to the murder, claimed to have carried it out as vengeance for a relative who belonged to the Islamic Jihad and was involved in terror attacks on Israeli citizens, who was killed in 2007 while resisting arrest.
Gregory Rabinowitz was bured in Ashdod. He is survived by his wife and two children. A month after his murder, his first two grandchildren were born. Following the arrest and confession of two of the terrorists in July, his family stated that they were pleased that justice had been finally done.
