On Tuesday evening, at approximately 18:50, a Kaytusha-type rocket landed in the Galilee, near Kiryat Shmona. The rocket landed in an open area and no injuries or damage was reported. IDF forces responded with artillery shells at the source of fire.
The past four months have seen a significant increase in hostile activity occurring within, and emanating from, southern Lebanon. This includes explosions within two Hizbullah arms depots in southern Lebanon (Khirbat Salim - 14 July 2009, Tayr Falsi - 12 Oct 2009), illegal border crossing near Har Dov (17 July 2009) and the firing of a number of Kaytusha rockets at northern Israel (11 Sept 2009).
As a whole, these incidents reflect ongoing and continuous violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which prohibits the presence of arms or armed personnel south of the Litani river beyond those of the Lebanese government or UNIFIL. Israel considers the Lebanese government and military responsible for the prevention of such attacks.
