'New York Times' reports Israeli allegations of Hizbullah war crimes

5 Dec 2006

The New York Times published a report on Israel's longstanding condemnation of Hizbullah for deliberately using Lebanese civilian areas to launch missiles at Israel during this past summer's Second Lebanon War.

The New York Times today (Tuesday, 5 Dec 2006) published a report on Israel's longstanding condemnation of Hizbullah for deliberately using Lebanese civilian areas to launch missiles at Israel during this past summer's Second Lebanon War.

Entitled "Offering Video, Israel Answers Critics on War" and written by reporter Greg Myre, the report quotes extensively from a recently declassified analysis ("Hezbollah's use of Lebanese civilians as human shields") by the Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center at the Center for Special Studies, compiled by Dr. Reuven Erlich, a retired lieutenant-colonel in IDF Intelligence.

The New York Times report notes that "Israel is using photographs and video to buttress its accusation that Hezbollah systematically fired from civilian neighborhoods in southern Lebanon":

Israel welcomes any attempt to bring Hizbullah's war crimes to light, and would just point out that most of the videos and other photographic evidence mentioned in the Times report have been available on the Foreign Ministry web site since July 12, 2006.
