IAEA report confirms Iran continuing pursuit of nuclear weapons

24 Feb 2008

The IAEA report reconfirms the State of Israel and the international community's concerns that Iran is continuing its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman)

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Mohamed ElBaradei's report published on 22 February 2008, reconfirms the State of Israel and the international community's concerns that Iran is continuing its pursuit of nuclear weapons. The report also makes it clear that Iran is continuing to enrich uranium and carry out other activities in violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

The report determines that Iran is conducting activities that are part of nuclear weaponization. This conclusion and others in the report strengthen in Israel's view the need to continue the comprehensive and thorough investigation of all of Iran's nuclear activities.

Since Iran is continuing to obstruct IAEA investigations and persists in flouting UN Security Council resolutions, Israel believes the international community must increase the pressure on Iran in order to ensure that it is prevented from acquiring nuclear weapons.
