The latest report of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) deals more severely and clearly than previously with the military aspects of Iran's nuclear program.
The report, the first issued under new IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano, establishes that the agency has reliable and extensive information regarding past and ongoing activities that testify to the military nature of the Iranian program.
The report draws attention to egregious activities such as the initializing of uranium enrichment to a 20 percent level and continued construction of the enrichment plant in Qom, both of which reveal Iran's true intentions. The report also reflects Iran's lack of cooperation with the IAEA's investigation into its activities.
Iran continues to systematically violate the resolutions of the U.N. Security Council and the IAEA Board of Directors. It is incumbent upon the international community and its institutions to apply effective sanctions against Iran without delay in order to make clear the heavy price Iran will pay should it continue to advance its nuclear program. |
