Behind the Headlines: Iranian-exported weapons seized by Israel Navy

Israeli naval force intercepts Iranian weapon ship
4 Nov 2009
On Tuesday November 3, a special Israel Navy force intercepted and boarded the cargo ship "Francop" flying an Antiguan flag, 100 miles off the coast of Israel, and brought it to the Ashdod port. Some 500 tons of weapons, rockets, and missiles were uncovered aboard the vessel, disguised as civilian cargo and hidden among hundreds of other containers.

The weapons found onboard the ship originate from Iran, and were intended for the Hizbullah terror organization, for use against the Israel. They constitute a harsh violation of UN Security Council Resolutions 1747 and 1701 that strictly forbid Iran from exporting or trading any form of weapons.

Israel rejects General Assembly resolution (5 Nov 2009)

4 Nov 2009
"States have not only the right, but indeed the duty, to pursue those who engage in the barbaric tactics of terrorism. States sponsoring terrorism - members of this organization - that actively engage in activities, such as smuggling of weapons, ammunition and terrorists by sea, air, and land, must be held accountable before the international community.

Yet today, rather than confronting terrorism, the General Assembly launches yet another campaign against the victims of terrorism, the people of Israel."
