The 2012 observance of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day will focus on the theme "Children and the Holocaust". 

PM Netanyahu addresses Knesset:
"Today, from this podium in the Israeli Knesset of the Jewish state, as the entire world marks the horrible slaughter of one-third of our people 70 years ago, I would nevertheless like to ask several questions: has the world truly learned the lessons of the Holocaust and internalized them? Have the horrors of the past prevented the genocide or mass murder of other peoples?"

Israel and China are commemorating today (24 January) twenty years of diplomatic relations. Israel assigns great importance to the promotion of its ties with China, the number two economic power in the world, a member of the UN Security Council and a major player in Asia and in the international arena.

The balloon is inflated to protect the healthy cells.

The main drawback of radiation therapy for cancer patients is that it harms healthy tissues surrounding a malignant tumor under radiation bombardment. Now the Israeli company BioProtect has come up with a unique biodegradable "balloon" that physically separates cancerous and healthy tissues during radiation therapy for prostate cancer.

PM Netanyahu (23 January 2012): "A few days ago we heard very serious remarks by the Palestinian Mufti in Jerusalem. The call to murder Jews simply because they are Jews is a terrible thing from an ethical point of view and is an obstacle to peace. Incitement in general is an obstacle to peace. What is especially serious is that as of today, not only has the Palestinian Authority neither condemned nor taken exception to the remarks, it enabled them to be broadcast on official Palestinian television.

Jerusalem's Malcha Stadium was the setting for the 30th European Traditional Karate Championship, held in November 2011. Some 170 martial artists from 15 countries competed in the event, kicked off by a gala opening ceremony in the presence of Mayor Nir Barkat, European ambassadors and other dignitaries.

Since 1967 more than one hundred thousand kibbutz volunteers have arrived in Israel. The kibbutz movement celebrated its centennial anniversary last year and among the many events was the special reunion trip for past volunteers. Following the success, the kibbutz movement is organizing a similar reunion trip for next year.
