June 2, 2001 - Sergei Panchenko, 20, of the Ukraine, was one of 21 people killed in a suicide bombing at a Tel-Aviv discotheque shortly before midnight on Friday night, June 1. Mortally wounded in the blast, he died the following day.
Sergei Panchenko, an only child, came to Israel nine months ago to join his mother who was living here.
His father said, "He was a special, charming boy. Insteading of being drafted into the Ukrainian army, he preferred to come to Israel." He planned to serve in the IDF.
At the request of his family, Sergei was buried in Kiev.
